The Kaanch is an ethnic fusion clothing brand started by two millennials. Our models, who we call style icons, are inspiring and empowering women from different fields. Our previous Style Icons include the CTO & Cofounder of Girl Geek X, a Clinical Research Manager with a PHD in Imaging, and a Robotics Engineer with an M.S. in Robotics.
3) Who are the founders:
Rafia Summan: B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from SJSU and currently working as a Systems Engineer at a medical device company.
Lovedeep Jhamat: B.S. in Business Administration from UC Berkeley and currently working as a Customer Success Analyst at an Ecommerce start-up.
4) When was your company founded:
The company was founded in September 2018.
5) Why did you feel inspired to create your company:
Representation matters! When Rafia was in college, she didn't know many women who she could look up to as role models. By using fashion as a medium, The Kaanch, is a company dedicated to showcasing inspiring, empowering and powerful women.
6) What do you love most about running your company:
What we love - The part that we love the most is connecting with inspiring, empowering and wonderful women and highlighting their prominent roles. Creating designs and clothing that people love and want to wear over and over again fuels our passion to be the best at what we do.
7) If you could have one person from history or fiction wearing your clothes, who would it be:
It’s difficult to choose one person because there are many individuals who have given so much to society and their respective fields. We would love to share our clothing and designs with as many people as possible.
